Sentinel-3 validation

This week CyanoLakes is working with CSIR to validate Sentinel-3 Ocean and Land Colour Instrument. We will be making measurements at Roodeplaat Dam, near Pretoria, simultaneous to the Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-2 overpasses. We are collecting measurements of the surface reflectance of the small turbid water body, as well as measurements of atmospheric conditions. Using these data we can model the radiance at the top of the atmosphere that should be measured by the OLCI and MSI sensors on Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-2 respectively. This is to check that the instrument is functioning normally, and to detect and anomalies or errors that may exist.

The work is part of the South African Sentinel-3 Validation Team feeding into the mission commissioning phase by EumetSat and ESA.
